The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) will be conducting its annual National Congress with the theme Libraries: Preservers and Promoters of Culture and Arts to be held at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City on November 20-22, 2013. This Congress is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCLIS) and the National Library of the Philippines.
The objectives of this activity are the following: 1) to hasten the development, maintenance and sharing of local materials through a stronger library and cultural coordination and cooperation; 2) to enhance the librarians’ capability in formulating and carrying out cultural programs and activities; 3) to boost the valuing of local cultural thesaurus by the librarians.
In line with this, we are inviting you to update yourselves with the latest developments in our field and to build more linkages with our colleagues in the profession. There will be parallel sessions on the 2nd day to discuss topics related to archives and the different types of libraries (i.e. academic, public, school, and special). Moreover, the library associations will be discussing concerns affecting their membership in particular and the profession in general which they can present to the mother organization for appropriate action.
